'How to Train Your Dragon' Trailer from DreamWorks

Above you will find the first official trailer for the next DreamWorks flick, How to Train Your Dragon. I'm still not sure what to think about it. The animation (or should I say MoCap), looks pretty decent; the people are certainly a step up from the rubbery beings from the Shrek universe. The dragon looks pretty weird, and I don't know about a main character named Hiccup, but at least I didn't see any pop culture references in the trailer. I hope that DreamWorks has finally decided to focus more on story than gimmicks, although the pushing of the 3D-ness of the film is not a step in the right direction. We'll see come March 26...

Just wanted to leave a quick note.. There's no mocap in any dreamworks animated picture. It's all keyframed.

Seen the Weta Productions/Nelvana animated tv series 'Jane And The Dragon'? It's set in a medieval world, where tom-boy Jane is being groomed for a lady-of-the-court position, but really wants to be a knight. The local smart-ass dragon (the last of his kind, possibly) kidnaps the young prince, and Jane proves her mettle by saving the saving him, befriending the dragon along the way. Different from this story in many ways, but it's pretty easy to see they didn't brainstorm this story up out of their own imaginations...
Weta's 'Jane..' was based on a series of books by new Zealand author Martin Baynton, who was also an executive producer on the show (a real, hands-on creative one, not your Hollywood empty-credit type).
